Indy 500 – Will Power increases the pace in FP5

Will Power improved the mark during the fifth session of the 100th edition of the Indianapolis 500. The Penske driver completed a lap in 38”6810 with a half-tenth lead over Josef Newgarden (Ed Carpenter Racing).

" It goes quickly. The fight for pole is going to be really tight. Competition will be high, including in the Honda clan”, declared the 2014 champion.

James Hinchcliffe (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) and Carlos Munoz (Andretti Autosport) followed just over a tenth behind. Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport) completed the top five ahead of Townsend Bell (Andretti Autosport) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport).

simon pagenaud (Team Penske), the leader of the Championship, achieved the 13th time more than three tenths from the reference. His compatriot Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing) finished 21st half a second behind.

The first part of qualifying will be contested this Saturday evening before the “Fast Nine Shootout” determining the first nine positions on the grid takes place the following day.
