IndyCar-C1: Power victorious in Detroit, Pagenaud retires

Will Power (Team Penske) got off to a bad start by only starting from 16th position on the Belle Isle Park circuit in Detroit, but the driver of the #12 DW12 was able to fight his way through by adopting a daring strategy to climb to the forefront, taking advantage of the numerous interruptions that punctuated the race. The Penske driver resisted the attacks of Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing) in the final laps to take his second victory of the season and come back to just three points behind leader Ryan Bunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) who only took 16th place after finishing in the wall on the last lap.

But the big loser of Race 1 is undoubtedly simon pagenaud (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports). The Frenchman clashed with Will Power at the start of the race while trying to overtake the Australian and damaged his suspension after contact with the wall, forcing him to retire. The French driver remains in fourth place but his delay at the head of the Championship is now 69 points. His compatriot Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing) reached the finish line in 13th position.

Tony Kanaan (Chip Ganassi Racing) takes the last step of the podium, ahead of Justin Wilson (Dale Coyne Racing) and the pole sitter Helio Castroneves (Team Penske).
