IndyCar-C2: Pagenaud: “I did my job”

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports caused a sensation at the Houston Grand Prix by scoring a double at the end of Race 2 with the victory of simon pagenaud ahead of his teammate Mikhail Aleshin. The Poitevin rider already had the opportunity to win during Race 1 where he started from pole, but contact in the peloton forced him to leave the front. The Frenchman was still able to score his second victory of the season after that won at the Indianapolis Grand Prix and thus remain in the title race.

Simon Pagenaud notably benefited from the abandonment of Helio Castroneves (Team Penske) who was leading the race after starting from pole and who fell back to the car by Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing). “Helio was very fast on the red (soft) tyres, but I knew I had a good car and it would be fine. I had tremendous traction and was very comfortable behind the wheel. I was able to come back with black tires while Helio was in difficulty. I took my chance at turn 4 by making a very good overtake. It's a shame not to have been able to fight to the finish. I had the best car this weekend and that's why I was so disappointed in the first race. But we came out better in the second. As a driver, it's my job to win when I have a car like that and I did my job. »
