IndyCar – Carlin confirms its entry and its drivers

After months of speculation, Carlin has finally confirmed his arrival in IndyCar. The British structure will have a full program with two cars which will be entrusted to Max Chilton and Charlie Kimball, two drivers who already know the team. The single-seaters will be powered by Chevrolet's twin-turbo V6.

It's a return to his roots for Max Chilton who already played for Carlin in F3, in GP2 and Indy Lights after having evolved in F1 with Marussia. The 26-year-old Briton has eight top ten finishes, including a fourth place at the last Indianapolis 500, in 33 starts with Chip Ganassi Racing. He will evolve again in his father's stable Grahame Chilton.

“Carlin is the first British team to enter IndyCar in the current era. It is the fruit of a lot of work done since the team's debut in America a few years ago, comments Max Chilton. IndyCar is incredibly competitive, but the introduction of the new aero packages will help close the gaps slightly. I know that Carlin excels in this type of discipline. »

Charlie Kimball will reunite with Carlin after ten years, the American having already competed in British F3 and Formula Renault 3.5 Series with the British structure (which was registered under the name Victory Engineering Team in World Series by Renault). He subsequently played for many years in IndyCar, also with Chip Ganassi Racing.

“Carlin was a big part of my beginnings when I was riding in Europe, confirms Charlie Kimball. It felt like everything came together at the right time when I had the opportunity to work with this team again. I have already played for two years with Max as a teammate and I think we complement each other perfectly. IndyCar wins not just a team but a group of competent and competitive people. »

Trevor Carlin, the Team Principal of the team of the same name, had a great moment during the presentation of the program.

“We do not underestimate the challenge that awaits us, but I have faith in the young and passionate team that our Team Manager Colin (Hate) has put together. Having drivers of the caliber of Max or Charlie goes beyond our expectations,” comments Trevor Carlin.
