IndyCar – Castroneves returns to victory in Iowa

Helio Castroneves (Team Penske) signed its first victory since Detroit (Michigan) in 2014 by winning the Iowa Corn 300 contested on the 0,8 mile oval and thus becomes the 9th winner in 11 races this year. The Brazilian dominated the event, leading for more than two thirds of the race and winning ahead of JR Hildebrand (Ed Carpenter Racing).

Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) completed the podium ahead of Will Power (Team Penske) and Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing).

The Penske drivers all finished in the top ten, with Josef Newgarden taking 6th place ahead of his teammate simon pagenaud. The reigning champion is 31 points behind Championship leader Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) who ranks 8th ahead of his teammate Tony Kanaan. James Hinchcliffe (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) completed the top ten.

Takuma Sato (Andretti Autosport), the winner of the 101st edition of the Indy 500, finished 16th two laps behind the winner after encountering mechanical problems at the same time as Ed Jones (Dale Coyne Racing). Esteban Gutiérrez (Dale Coyne Racing) finished 13th in his first oval race.
