Mike conway will have a busy schedule this season as he will compete IndyCar road events at the wheel of the No. 12 DW20 entered by Ed Carpenter Racing in addition to his role as reserve driver at Toyota in WEC. Marked by the two impressive accidents he suffered on an oval, the former resident of G-Drive Racing in Endurance now focuses on events contested on road circuits. “It’s up to me to know what I need from the car and look for what I want, not just getting behind the wheel.”, explains the winner of one of the doubleheaders in Detroit.
Ed Carpenter, the driver boss of the eponymous team, is aware that the challenge facing his new recruit is significant. The American took advantage of the winter tests carried out at the Sebring International Raceway to work alongside Mike Conway on all the technical details: performance of the 6l biturbo V2.2, balance, brakes... Important details when each team only has 18 sessions tests between engine manufacturer tests, Open Test, or wind tunnel tests. “This is our third session and our fourth day with Mike”, specifies Ed Carpenter. “It takes time to get to know each other and for them to adapt to our way of working and communicating. It's the same thing the other way around. It doesn't happen after one day of testing, so these days are important to be ready before St Petersburg (the first race of the season on March 30). I feel like we're better every time we go out. »
