IndyCar – Dallara will produce 2018 aero kits

After having created the IR-12 currently used in IndyCar, Dallara was selected to produce the aero kits for the 2018 season. The organizers of the American single-seater discipline have decided to implement identical aero kits for the Chevrolet and Honda teams. The Italian manufacturer will produce kits for road circuits and short ovals and those for superspeedways.

“The efforts were made jointly, including both people from within and our public, argues Jay Frye, IndyCar’s president of competition and operations. Dallara has been a great partner and we couldn’t have been happier with the look, safety advancements and performance targets for the 2018 car.”

Dallara has been a partner of IndyCar since 1997 and has become the supplier of chassis since 2008. The Varano de’ Melegari brand has also become the supplier of Indy Lights, the antechamber of IndyCar.

“2017 marks the 20th anniversary of our presence in IndyCar and it is a great honor to continue our partnership with IndyCar, adds Andrea Pontremoli, CEO and general manager of Dallara. Our main objective with this new aero kit was to work on the style while trying to maintain the American spirit of the car while maintaining a good level of performance and security. »

These new aero kits will aim to offer more aero downforce while reducing turbulence to make overtaking easier. Safety was studied in particular on the sides, an area that is always sensitive on racing cars.
