IndyCar – Convincing testing of the 2018 aero kit in Iowa

Juan Pablo Montoya et Oriol Servia continued their testing of the 2018 universal aero kit supplied by Dallara in Indycar. After Indianapolis and Mid-Ohio, they tested the short oval/road-street event configuration at Iowa Speedway. The two veterans carried out several tests with different levels of support.

« It's interesting to see that you can do the same time by going all the way with a certain support setting and lifting your foot with another setting., explains Montoya. We're trying to figure out what's the best way to bring in better racing. »

The advantage presented by this new kit lies in the nature of the support which is under the car and not above, which creates less aerodynamic disturbance for the competitor following.

« I was able to drive behind Juan Pablo for a long time and the car only lost a little grip on all four tires., explains Servia. The car does not lose only on the front or on the rear, which is the problem with current cars."

The kit's next test session will take place after the end of the Indycar regular season on September 26 at Sebring International Raceway (Florida).
