IndyCar – Gabby Chaves joins Dale Coyne Racing

Engaged by Bryan Herta Autosport in 2015, Colombian Gabby Chaves, Indy Lights champion in 2014, won the honorary title of Rookie of the Year and Rookie of the Indianapolis 500 last year at the end of his first campaign in IndyCar.

The 22-year-old driver, not renewed for 2016, will finally find refuge with Dale Coyne Racing for the two races in Indianapolis this month, the Grand Prix contested this weekend on the road course and the famous 100th edition of the 500 miles (May 29).

“Throughout my career, I have always been on the grid for the first race of the season except this year. I thought I had many offers before 2016 and for several reasons, none came through, underlines Chaves, who will take the car n°19 usually assigned to the Italian Luca Filippi for these two meetings.

I've been talking with Dale for years and I'm happy to finalize something with him and the team. I'm really looking forward to it. After so much time out of the car, I was really able to understand what it means to me to be in a race car. I can now get back on the track to enjoy it even more. »

Chaves finished 15th in the Indianapolis Grand Prix in 2015, before finishing 16th a few days later at the 500 miles. He will find his compatriots Juan Pablo Montoya (Team Penske – Chevrolet) and Carlos Munoz (Andretti Autosport – Honda) on the starting grid.
