IndyCar – Ganassi recruits the 2017 Rookie of the Year

A few weeks ago, Chip Ganassi Racing formalized its intention to downsize, going from four to two Dallara-Hondas registered for the season. Unsurprisingly, four-time New Zealand champion Scott Dixon, who has defended the interests of the team since 2002, is retained. At his side, his compatriot should have landed Brendon Hartley. But according to our information (see Ah n°2136), the winner of the last 24 Hours of Le Mans having already obtained the assurance of Toro Rosso to be a holder alongside Pierre Gasly in 2018, he broke his contract.

Eventually, Chip Ganassi turned to Ed Jones, who has dual British and Emirati citizenship. Aged 22, the 2016 Indy Lights champion shone this year under the colors of Dale Coyne Racing. Rookie of the year, he finished 14e of the championship, his highest achievement being his third place at the Indy 500 last May.

" NOTWe have been following Ed's career for some time and are delighted to now be able to count on his services », rejoices Chip Ganassi. “ It's an honor to be offered the opportunity to ride for Chip, continues Ed Jones. It is one of the largest teams in the world. I want to get up to speed as quickly as possible. Scott is a legend and to be able to team up with him is an incredible opportunity. I think I'll join the team at the best time, when the counters are reset to zero by the introduction of the new aerodynamic kits. »

Here is Chip Ganassi Racing armed to try to tickle Team Penske, who will count on Josef Newgarden, simon pagenaud and Will Power.
