IndyCar – Graham Rahal inherits pole in Detroit

Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing) won his 3rd pole in IndyCar, its first since the Kansas Speedway event in 2009, at the end of IndyCar qualifying contested on the Belle Isle circuit in Detroit (Michigan). The driver of the #12 DW15-Honda completed a lap in 1'13''9681 at an average speed of 114,374mph.

Helio Castroneves (Team Penske) was the fastest, but the Championship leader saw his best lap canceled for not having slowed down sufficiently under the yellow flag.

Despite everything, the Brazilian remained the fastest in his group and thus maintains a place on the front row, preceding Takuma Sato (Andretti Autosport), the winner of the 101st edition of the Indy 500, while Alexander Red (Andretti Herta Autosport) completes the second row ahead of James Hinchcliffe and Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing). simon pagenaud (Team Penske) took 7th place.

For his IndyCar debut, Esteban Guiérrez (Dale Coyne Racing) took 19th position on the grid, 1”6 from pole.

The Detroit round being a “doubleheader”, Race 1 will be contested this Saturday evening.
