IndyCar – Hunter-Reay takes pole at Mid-Ohio

After a series of disappointments, Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) returned to the front by winning his pole on the Mid-Ohio circuit, his third of the season. With a time of 1'05"3519 in the Firestone Fast Six, the reigning champion fell just a few hundredths short of the record set by Dario Franchitti and Gil de Ferran. “I have already won the podium, but I have never won here”, comments the pole sitter. “We also need to win it for the Championship. Will Power (Team Penske) is closest to Ryan Hunter-Reay, failing almost two tenths of the reference time. Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing), who remains on three consecutive victories and who has two successes in the last editions at Mid-Ohio, will start from third row ahead of Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport). Charlie Kimball (Chip Ganassi Racing) will start from fifth row ahead of Dario Franchitti (Chip Ganassi Racing) and Justin Wilson (Dale Coyne Racing).

The French team Schmidt Motorsports are well positioned. simon pagenaud took eighth position while Tristan Vautier will start 11th behind Simona de Silvestro (KV Racing Technology) and James Jakes (Rahal Letterman Lanigan). Sebastian Bourdais (Dragon Racing) took 14th position. For his first test in IndyCar, Luca Filippi (Barracuda Racing) will start at the back of the peloton.
