IndyCar – Hunter-Reay and Castroneves meet again in Indianapolis

Ryan Hunter-Reay and Helio Castroneves had their heads full of memories as they returned yesterday to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where they delivered a magnificent duel for victory in the last edition of the Indy 500 (video summary), in order to participate in a test session for Firestone. The Andretti Autosport driver finally won by six hundredths ahead of the Team Penske resident, the second smallest gap in the history of the event after the duel between Al Unser Jr and Scott Goodyear in 1992 which was four hundredths.

If the driver of the No. 12 DW28 was unable to claim the title despite his three victories acquired this year, the American's season is still successful as the impact of this legendary race is significant. “It was so intense that I don’t remember everything. My first laps since this event were special, it's exciting to be back! It's true that my overtaking maneuver (three laps from the finish, on the inside of turn 3) was daring, but you're ready for anything when you're fighting for victory at the Indy 500. I went wherever the car could go. »

The sensations were obviously different for the Brazilian who still has three victories at the Indy 500 achieved during his first two participations in 2001 and 2002 and in 2009. The season of the driver of the No. 3 was tough since he finished runner-up to Will Power. “I still think about it often. The only way I could block Ryan was with something that would keep me awake. You have to know how to assert yourself and sometimes accept defeat. »
