IndyCar – Hunter-Reay wins at Iowa Speedway

Ryan Hunter Reay (Andretti Autosport) became the 9th winner at the end of the 13th event of the season at Iowa Speedway. The 2012 champion, who scored his 15th success in IndyCar, imposed himself in front of his compatriots Joseph Newgarden (CFH Racing) and Sage karam (Chip Ganassi Racing). This is the first time since the 500 Indianapolis 2006, where Sam Hornish Jr was victorious, that the top three is only completed by Americans.

This is the 6th consecutive victory for Andretti Autosport on this 0,8 mile oval where Ryan Hunter-Reay now has three successes. The winner of the Indy 500 in 2014 had already won ahead of Josef Newgarden last year.

The Championship could have been relaunched following the abandonment of Juan Pablo Montoya (Team Penske), his first in 18 starts, the last having occurred on this oval a year earlier. The leader of the Drivers' classification hit the wall on the 10th of the 300 laps of the race.

Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) was unable to take advantage since he only finished 18th following a mechanical problem. The poleman Helio Castroneves (Team Penske) only took 11th place.

Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing) took 9th place ahead of Will Power (Team Penske) who had two retirements in the previous races. Tristan Vautier (Dale Coyne Racing) placed 12th while simon pagenaud (Team Penske) finished 14th.

Juan Pablo Montoya maintains a 42-point lead over Graham rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing), its new direct rival, three events from the end of the season.

A minute of silence was observed before the race to pay tribute to Jules Bianchi passed away on July 17 as a result of his accident at the 2014 Japanese GP.
