IndyCar – Josef Newgarden leaves Ed Carpenter Racing

Josef Newgarden will no longer defend the colors of Ed Carpenter Racing in 2017. The 2011 Indy Lights champion announced he was leaving his team without revealing any further details about his future.

“Although I am disappointed that Josef will not return, it is not really a surprise given the speculation of the last few weeks, commented the boss-driver of the team of the same name. I wish him the best for the future while remaining focused on the success of ECR. We are well positioned for 2017 and I am completely confident in our abilities to achieve a high level of performance. »

Josef Newgarden got his collaboration with Ed Carpenter Racing off to a good start by securing three victories in 2015. The 25-year-old American had his best season in 2016, finishing in fourth place in the Championship. He should probably replace Juan Pablo Montoya on Team Penske next year.
