IndyCar – Justin Wilson disappeared a year ago

On August 24, 2015, theIndyCar and the world of motorsport were mourned by the death of Justin Wilson. The 37-year-old Briton was competing in the Pocono (Pennsylvania) race when he received a piece of debris following an accident by Sage Karam.

The 2007 Champ Car World Series runner-up was rushed to the Lehigh Valley Network Cedar Crest hospital in Allentown, but his injuries were too serious to save him. Justin Wilson has died after being put in a coma.

The Andretti driver has scored seven IndyCar victories and eight poles in 174 starts. His last success dates back to 2012 when he won at Texas Motor Speedway. He left behind a wife and two daughters.

His accident notably pushed the International Automobile Federation to study the possibility of cockpit protection in F1 called “Halo” which should be introduced in 2018 following the FIA postponement.

IndyCar also suffered from Dan Wheldon's fatal accident during the 2011 season finale played on October 17 on the Las Vegas (Nevada) oval.
