Justin Wilson died from his injuries a day after his accident in Pocono. This is the second death of an IndyCar driver in four years.

IndyCar – Justin Wilson is dead

Justin Wilson died from his injuries following the accident which occurred on August 23 during the Pocono race (Pennsylvania). After being transported in extreme emergency to the Lehigh Valley Network Cedar Crest hospital located in Allentown, the Briton was immediately placed in intensive care while being plunged into a coma. He was 37 years old.

The Andretti Autosport driver received a piece of debris in the head from the Sage Karam crash which occurred on the 180th lap of the 200 that included the event. Although the Chip Ganassi Racing driver also had to receive treatment, attention was immediately focused on the 2007 Champ Car World Series runner-up.

Justin Wilson distinguished himself by winning seven victories in IndyCar, his last dating back to 2012 at Texas Motor Speedway, and eight poles in 174 races. The Sheffield native was also known for riding in F1 during the 2003 season, defending the colors of Minardi and Jaguar in 16 Grands Prix, including an 8th place at the US GP in Indianapolis.

This is the second fatal accident involving an IndyCar driver in just four years. Dan wheldon died on October 17, 2011 during the final in Las Vegas (Nevada).

Justin Wilson leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.
