IndyCar – The 2016 title would have a special flavor for Power

Like his Team Penske teammates, Will Power was logically one of the favorites for the 2016 title in IndyCar. But a more than complicated start to the season almost ruined the hopes of a second coronation for the pilot of the car flanked by n°12.

Absent from the opening race in St Petersburg, Florida following an inner ear problem, the 2014 champion had only achieved one podium in seven races before his first victory in Detroit at the start of June.

Despite these results, Power did not give up, including six top 2 finishes between Detroit and Pocono to place himself as the last opponent in simon pagenaud before the final in Sonoma, California this weekend. A turnaround in the championship which would have a special place for Power in the event of a second consecration.

“It’s a surprise for me given how I felt at the start of the year, and being here in this situation. I really struggled in the first few races and it would be a great feeling to win this championship, honestly. It would be a better feeling than my first championship, really. » admits Power before the first runs in California.

Power clearly does not have the game won against his Team Penske teammate. A fourth place is indeed enough for Simon Pagenaud to be titled, regardless of Power's result. The Australian, on the other hand, will have the advantage of being on almost conquered ground in Sonoma, since the former resident of Formula Renault 3.5 has already won this event three times in 2010, 2011 and 2013.
