IndyCar – Montoya: “It’s just a bad year”

After his victory in the 500 Indy 2015, observers placed Juan Pablo Montoya big favorite to win the title IndyCar Series. The Colombian, leader of the general classification since the start of the year, then had all the cards in hand to win a new coronation after his CART title in 1999.

However, the title fell into the hands of New Zealander Scott Dixon, author of an exemplary final championship game when Montoya no longer found the path to success between Indianapolis and the final in Sonoma, California. Tied on points, it is the number of victories which allowed the Ganassi driver to be titled.

Winner last March of the opening race of the 2016 championship in St Petersburg, we thought the former driver F1 returned to the basics of his 2015 campaign, but since then only one top 3 (in the first race in Detroit) has rewarded the Team Penske resident.

Mixed results that the native of Bogota partly attributes to a lack of success. “It’s the race, Montoya analyzes on the IndyCar website. You have good years and you have bad years. It's just a bad year.

How can you control exploding engines or yellow flags? You can't control that. The things outside of my control went poorly, but for the areas within my control, I think we did pretty well. »

Asked about his potential loss of desire, Montoya clearly refuted any drop in motivation, despite his title chances now being almost zero. “I would like to know who says these things. I heard about it too. It's a bit annoying because I feel like my driving is at its best since I came back in 2014.

Things didn't go my way. Last year, everything we did was the right thing. This year I think my speed is much better […] Should I be worried? No, my speed is good. We are here. »
