Returned to the peloton of IndyCar Series in 2014 after his period Nascar, the Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya was close to winning the Drivers' title the following year, after winning for the second time in his career at the Indianapolis 500 after his first success in 2000.

The old pilot Williams et McLaren had been beaten at the final round of the season in Sonoma, California by Chip Ganassi Racing driver Scott Dixon. One of the favorites for the 2016 campaign, Montoya ideally started his championship with a victory in St Petersburg, Florida, but was then only able to return to the podium twice, concluding the season in 8th place in the standings.

A few days after the Sonoma final which saw the coronation of his French teammate simon pagenaud, Team Penske announced the replacement of Montoya by the young American driver Josef Newgarden, resident of Ed Carpenter Racing.

This Tuesday, Roger Penske's team finally confirmed that Juan Pablo Montoya, after studying several options for his upcoming season, would compete in the Indianapolis 500 in 2017. Details of this commitment will be communicated later.

Team Penske will therefore present five drivers at the start of the event with champion Simon Pagenaud, Will Power, Helio Castroneves, Josef Newgarden and therefore Juan Pablo Montoya.
