IndyCar – Montoya and Servia give their thoughts on the 2018 aero kit

Juan Pablo Montoya and Oriol Servia took part in the first tests of the 2018 aero kitIndyCar developed by Dallara at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Colombian and the Spaniard completed more than a hundred laps each with this future aero kit which will be common between the Chevrolet and Honda teams.

“We feel very comfortable, as if we were in a bathtub, explained Juan Pablo Montoya whose Dallara IR-12 was prepared by Team Penske. We feel from the first laps that the engineers have done a really good job. New elements have made it possible to obtain better stability. The difference in downforce will certainly be even more apparent when the drivers navigate traffic. The cars will be able to move closer together. »

Oriol Servia shared the impressions of his colleague, the Spaniard also having solid experience in IndyCar having played in the discipline since 2000.

“I went hard from the first lap. It shows how stupid I am but also that the behavior of this car is really good. I didn't feel any real differences but they should be felt when you're in traffic. This car promises to be a real racing machine in 2018.", added Oriol Servia, whose car was prepared by Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

The next tests of the 2018 aero kit, this time in the high downforce version, will also be carried out with two cars. Testing will be conducted on August 1 at Mid-Ohio, August 10 at Iowa Speedway and September 26 at Sebring Raceway (Florida).

“We are satisfied because the figures correspond to our results obtained in the wind tunnel and in simulation, explained Bill Pappas, the vice president of competition and racing engineering in charge of the technical development of the 2018 aero kit. This is the first time I have participated in the design of a car. Dallara clearly did a good job, but we still hold our breath before the first laps of the track. »
