IndyCar – Pagenaud offers a 500th pole to Team Penske

The championship leader hit hard in qualifying this Saturday evening in Iowa. On the American oval, the Frenchman from the Penske team achieved the best average over two laps in 34 "633 and signs a fifth pole position this year in IndyCar Series. The pilot of the car No. 22 also allows Roger Penske's team to reach 500 poles.

Behind simon pagenaud, we find Josef Newgarden who continues his astonishing return to competition after suffering injuries to his collarbone and hand in Texas. The Ed Carpenter Racing – Chevrolet driver achieved the second best performance of the session in 34″673, 40 thousandths behind the Penske driver.

Helio Castroneves (Team Penske – Chevrolet) took third place ahead of the excellent Max Chilton (Chip Ganassi Racing – Chevrolet), while Charlie Kimball (Chip Ganassi Racing – Chevrolet) completed the top 5.

As in the first free practice session, the Honda-powered single-seaters were behind with Mikhail Aleshin (SPM Racing – Honda), best representative of the Japanese clan in only ninth position. In the top 10 in free practice, Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing – Chevrolet) could only qualify in 16th position.
