IndyCar – Pagenaud: “An incredible season”

Whatever the outcome of the final in Sonoma, California this weekend, the 2016 season of simon pagenaud will remain as the most accomplished of his career in IndyCar. Author of four victories, including three in a row between Long Beach and the Indianapolis Grand Prix, the Frenchman had an idyllic start to the championship, with five top 2s in five events contested.

After the disappointment of the Indianapolis 500, the Team Penske driver was able to manage his lead in the standings over his rivals, notably achieving a major success at Mid-Ohio to have a 43-unit margin over his last rival Will Power before the confrontation decisive.

The former resident of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports already wants to remember these performances, before hoping to finish in California, where he will be in the position of favorite. « Our season was incredible, explains the Team Penske driver. I am so proud of my team and what we have already achieved with six poles and four wins. Now we want the championship and for the best to win. »

Facing him, Will Power has gone through many adventures this season, but despite everything, remains the only driver still in the running to prevent Simon Pagenaud from winning his first crown. “It’s been a season full of twists and turns, admits the 2014 champion.

We didn't get off to the best start beyond what happened in St Petersburg (inner ear problem). We went through this together, and being able to win the championship remains impressive.

The fact that this will be a title for Team Penske is also great. We did everything we could to win for ourselves and for the team, and to be able to deliver a championship for Roger (Penske) in this 50th season is pretty special. »
