IndyCar – Portland to replace Watkins Glen in 2018

The organizers of theIndyCar presented the calendar for the 2018 season. The development of the discipline outside the USA desired by its president Mark Miles will not take place for next year since the meetings will be almost identical to this year. The calendar will also remain condensed since the season will run from March 11 to September 16.

The main change comes from the replacement of the Watkins Glen (New York) race by the Portland (Oregon) event. The 1,967-mile Portland International Raceway will offer a road race for the first time in the discipline after hosting CART and Champ Car from 3,16 to 1984. The event will be contested on Labor Day on 2007 september. The final will again take place at Sonoma Raceway (California) which narrowly escaped a fire this week.

“IndyCar couldn't be more pleased to return to racing in front of a particularly dedicated crowd. Portland International Raceway has delivered some sensational racing throughout IndyCar history, including the closest finish in history on a road course in 1997. This return couldn't come at a better time as our cars will adopt new lines in 2018. The strength and stability of the 2018 IndyCar calendar is something we should all be proud of,” comments Mark Miles.

The 2018 season will be an opportunity to see in action the new universal aero kits common to Chevrolet and Honda with which new tests have been carried out this Tuesday, October 11 by simon pagenaud (Team Penske) and Spencer Pigot (Ed Carpenter Racing) at Road America (Wisconsin).
