IndyCar – Power on pole ahead of Pagenaud in St Petersburg

The first part of qualifying, which sees the competitors take to the track in two separate groups, was the scene of the entry elimination of Carlos Munoz (Andretti / Honda) and the three rookies, namely Spencer Pigot (RLL / Honda) ,Alexander Red (Andretti / Honda) and Max Chilton (Ganassi / Chevrolet). Scott Dixon (Ganassi / Chevrolet) and Will Power (Penske / Chevrolet) took the opportunity to take the lead, setting the reference times for Groups 1 and 2.

In Q2 (which pitted 12 cars against each other), Will Power continued to exercise flawless domination, setting a fantastic time of 1'00"0658. On the timesheet, the Australian was ahead of Scott Dixon, simon pagenaud (Penske / Chevrolet), Juan Pablo Montoya (Penske / Chevrolet), Helio Castroneves (Penske / Chevrolet) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti / Honda), who therefore offered themselves a ticket for Q3, called across the Atlantic the Firestone Fast Six.

Tomorrow, those who failed will move from seventh to 12th place on the starting grid, with in order, Graham Rahal (RLL / Honda), Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH / Chevrolet), James Hinchcliffe (SPM / Honda), Jack Hawksworth (Foyt / Honda), Takuma Sato (Foyt / Honda) and Josef Newgarden (Carpenter / Chevrolet). Eighth, Sébastien Bourdais considered himself satisfied with the progress made.

Unsurprisingly, in Q3, Will Power clocked an impressive 1'00"2450. Like last year, the Australian was ahead of his teammate Simon Pagenaud by a breath. Helio Castroneves and Juan Pablo Montoya even gave Team Penske a quadruple, on a track that worked out wonderfully for them. Scott Dixon will start fifth and Ryan Hunter-Reay sixth.

Tomorrow, the start of the race will be at 17:45 p.m. French time.
