IndyCar – Power ends its drought

Long leader last night during the second round of the double header in Detroit (Michigan), simon pagenaud finally settled for second place behind his Penske teammate Will Power, victorious again after a year without success. The last time the car of the Australian had appeared on Victory Lane dating back to the Indianapolis Grand Prix in 2015.

It was with an overtake on Simon Pagenaud on the 53rd lap that the 2014 champion took provisional control of the race, the competitors preceding him then having to return to the pits before the checkered flag.

A return to the forefront even though Power had been penalized in qualifying, and had started in eighth position. “It gives the whole team some confidence, underlines the Australian. It's been a difficult start to the year. I missed the first race and just had a few mishaps and now here we are.

The guys did a great job in the pits, and got me out in front of Ryan Hunter-Reay. From there, I told myself that I had to capitalize on this at the restart, otherwise we were not going to win. » Thanks to this 26th career success, Power moved up to 7th place in the general ranking, still dominated by Simon Pagenaud.
