IndyCar – Power wins in Houston, Franchitti crash

Will Power (Team Penske) won the second doubleheaders event of theIndyCar in Houston after taking the advantage during a restart on Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing). The Scotsman tried to regain the leading position without managing to overtake the Australian and was satisfied with a good second place which gave him the lead in the Championship before the season finale played at Fontana. The winner of the first race took advantage of a catastrophic weekend from his opponent Helio Castroneves (Team Penske) who finished at the bottom of the standings after damaging his gearbox on a curb. The gap between the two contenders is 25 points out of the 53 available.

James Hinchcliffe (Andretti Autosport) recovered from his disappointment by taking third place ahead of Justin Wilson (Dale Coyne Racing). Sebastian Bourdais (Dragon Racing) takes a convincing fifth place ahead of his compatriot simon pagenaud (Schmidt Motorsports) which abandons its title hopes in Houston. Tristan Vautier (Schmidt Motorsports) fails just outside the top ten.

The end of the race was marked by an impressive pile-up. Dario Franchitti (Ganassi Racing) violently hit the car by Takuma Sato (AF Foyt Racing) before taking off. The four-time champion of the discipline was taken to hospital for examinations as well as several spectators injured by debris. Videos of the accident are available on this link.
