IndyCar – Scott Dixon wins pole at Mid-Ohio

The Mid-Ohio circuit and the Honda Indy 200 are a sort of preserve for Scott Dixon. The New Zealander of Chip Ganassi Racing? Chevrolet has won five of the last eight races held on this track, including last year.

This Saturday, the three-time champion of the discipline took pole position (his 23rd in his career), with a new track record established in 1'04 "581. A performance which allows him to beat outgoing champion Will Power (Team Penske? Chevrolet) by 96 thousandths. Third driver to go below 1’05 per lap, in the last part of qualifying, the Frenchman Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing? Chevrolet) completes the trifecta of the session.

Helio Castroneves (Team Penske), Josef Newgarden (CFH Racing) and Charlie Kimball (Chip Ganassi Racing) conclude Fast 6 (which brings together the six drivers vying for pole position), in that order, with Chevrolet imposing its domination over the session, as the first one car Honda, that of Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) only appears in seventh position.

In the Penske clan, Juan-Pablo Montoya and simon pagenaud were somewhat disappointed, the Colombian not reaching Fast 6, failing in 10th position, while the Frenchman had been eliminated in the first round of qualifying, just like Tristan Vautier (Dale Coyne Racing? Honda). The two Frenchies will start from 15th and 24th place respectively. The race will start tomorrow evening at 20 p.m. French time.
