IndyCar – Scott Dixon wins his 3rd title at Fontana

Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) weathered the chaos of the MAVTV 500 contested at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana where only the top five drivers finished on the winner's lap. By securing fifth place ahead of his rival Helio Castroneves (Team Penske), the New Zealander won his third title after those obtained in 2003 and 2008. The Brazilian could claim victory, but a stop by his team made while the pit lane was closed and a damaged front wing put an end to the hopes of the driver of the #12 DW3 who finished sixth.

Will Power (Team Penske) avoided the pitfalls by dominating almost half of the race where he started on pole. The driver of the No. 12 beat Ed Carpenter (Ed Carpenter Racing) who scored his first podium of the season on the oval where he won last year. Tony Kanaan completed the event podium for his final race with KV Racing Technology, while James Hinchcliffe (Andretti Autosport) took fourth place.

The MAVTV 500 was marked by numerous abandonments, most of them due to overheating problems. Only nine drivers out of the 25 lined up at the start reached the finish. If the accidents disrupted the event, Justin Wilson (Dale Coyne Racing) suffered the most serious shock of the weekend. The Briton spun in the second corner before being hit by Tristan Vautier (Schmidt Motorsports). The driver of the No. 19 was taken to hospital for exams. Wanting to avoid the car in distress, Josef Newgarden (Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing) caught the car of Oriol Servia (Panther Racing). James Jakes (RLL Racing) was also trapped by running over the debris.

On the French side, none saw the finish. Sebastian Bourdais (Dragon Racing) retired due to contact and was finally classified 12th ahead simon pagenaud (Schmidt Motorsports) who threw in the towel following a mechanical problem. Tristan Vautier is 21st. The video summary of the final is available on this link.
