IndyCar – Scott Dixon: “Finish as good as possible”

Reigning champion, Scott Dixon had not yet won this season. He fixed this mistake last Sunday at Mid-Ohio. Mathematically, everything remains possible for the New Zealander from Target Chip Ganassi Racing.

IndyCar – Scott Dixon: “Finish as good as possible”

How happy are you to win at Mid-Ohio?
It happened much later in the season than the team is accustomed to. Sometimes, we can understand that one of us has not yet managed to achieve a victory, but here, the four (Dixon, Kanaan, Kimball and Briscoe. Editor’s note)… From the start of the weekend, the car was extremely fast and appeared to perform well until I made a mistake in qualifying (a spin forcing him to start at the back of the grid. Editor’s note). I then told myself that getting back into the top 10 from last was going to be very complicated. We had to save a lot of fuel (after having decided to observe only stop holes against four in the competition. Editor's note).

Why is this route so special to you?
This track suits me, as does the team. I have won 5 times here, the team 10 including six successes in a row. It's a place that I love. I like old-fashioned American tracks like Watkins-Glen, Road America or Laguna Seca. It’s physically demanding, with a lot of elevation changes, and it’s very technical.

Does this win make it even more special because you started last?
It's a great feeling. Considering the year we've had so far, you can imagine how nice it is. (this is Ganassi’s first success this year. Editor’s note). Getting back on the top step of the podium means a lot to me. I knew I had a good car. But in a road race like this, on a narrow track, being able to overtake 21 competitors... Without a strategy that works in your favor, it's almost impossible. Knowing that we are not going to go through a season without a single victory is a relief. We will make sure to finish this championship as well as possible.
