IndyCar – Scott Dixon takes nothing for granted

After a catastrophic weekend for Helio Castroneves in Houston, Scott Dixon took the lead in the Championship with 25 points ahead of the Team Penske driver who is his only rival for the title. The resident of Chip Ganassi Racing sees the prospect of a third title taking shape before the final in Fontana contested next weekend but nevertheless keeps in mind that the coronation could still escape him with the slightest misstep. “We are in a good situation against Helio and Penske and it will not be easy for us because they are particularly competitive”, comments the New Zealander. "As in many seasons ofIndyCar, I think it will come down to the last corner of the last lap. We just hope we get a happy ending. »

Scott Dixon still leaves with a clear advantage since a fifth place would be enough for him to secure a third title. The Chip Ganassi Racing driver took third place last year while his Brazilian rival finished fifth. “The easiest way to approach the weekend is to maintain our habits and aim for victory”, adds the Championship leader who has already won four times this year. “If we can achieve this, the Championship will be folded. But Helio and Chevy showed good pace during testing (September 24) and the Chevrolet engines are very competitive on these ovals of two miles or more. The battle will be far from easy and we will have to fight until the end. »

Scott Dixon is also happy to see Alex Tagliani gets back behind the wheel to replace Dario Franchitti injured last weekend in Houston. The New Zealander went to the bedside of the quadruple champion following his terrible accident. “I would have liked Dario to be with us next weekend and help me win the Championship. In any case, it's a good thing to know that Dario is doing well. He is recovering well but he clearly cannot drive at the moment and he will have to wait a little while before getting behind the wheel again. Tag is a good choice, he was fast last year at Fontana before retiring with a mechanical problem, but he had to fight in first or second place for most of the race. »
