IndyCar – Simon Pagenaud on pole in Toronto

simon pagenaud has gained momentum since the start of the Canadian weekend in Toronto in IndyCar. Best time in EL3, the Frenchman, reigning champion, was once again the fastest this Saturday evening to take pole position for the urban event, his first of the season.

The Team Penske – Chevrolet driver dominated his rivals by establishing a record lap of the circuit in 58″912 and ahead of Graham Rahal (Team RLL – Honda) by 312 thousandths. Penske drivers Helio Castroneves and Will Power will start from the second row and are ahead of Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing – Honda) and James Hinchcliffe (SPM – Honda), both of whom entered Fast 6.

Josef Newgarden (Team Penske) was unable to follow the example of his teammates from Roger Penske's team, and failed at the gates of the last session. The American will start seventh ahead of Alexander Red (Andretti-Herta Autosport – Honda), Max Chilton (Chip Ganassi Racing – Honda) and Takuma Sato (Andretti Autosport – Honda), who made contact with the wall in the first part of qualifying, and who completes the top 10.

Jr Hildebrand (Ed Carpenter Racing – Chevrolet) and Esteban Gutiérrez (Dale Coyne Racing – Honda) both caused a red flag during the session, after also making contact with the wall.
