Winner of the Indianapolis 500, Takuma Sato (Andretti Autosport – Honda) was the fastest in qualifying this Saturday evening at the Tricky Triangle in Pocono, Pennsylvania. Last in action, the Japanese achieved a best average of 219,639 mph (353,474 km/h) and is ahead simon pagenaud (Team Penske – Chevrolet), who had nevertheless taken the advantage in the session.
The Frenchman will start on the front row and precedes Ganassi – Honda drivers Charlie Kimball and Tony Kanaan. Will Power (Team Penske) ranks fifth ahead of Alexander Red (Andretti-Herta Autosport – Honda).
Graham Rahal (Team RLL – Honda), Gabby Chaves (Harding Racing – Chevrolet), Scott Dixon and Max Chilton (Chip Ganassi Racing) complete the top 10. The session was marked by the two incidents ofHelio Castroneves (Team Penske) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport), who hit the wall violently during their attempts.

Castroneves has been released from the medical center, while Ryan Hunter-Reay will be taken to hospital for tests.

Accidented during testing, Ed Carpenter (Ed Carpenter Racing – Chevrolet) did not take part in the session.
