IndyCar – Tristan Vautier tested the Dallara IL-15

Tristan Vautier had the chance and the responsibility to carry out the first real test of the future car of Indy Lights, which will be fielded in the sister series of the grand championship IndyCar. On the Mid-Ohio track, the Frenchman completed several laps and was enthusiastic.

“It’s a real racing car, and really a great step forward for the series, admitted the 2012 Indy Lights champion, and IndyCar Rookie of the Year the following year. I love the sound of the engine, and the engine's turbo gives good performance. The steering and brakes are also very good. I feel very comfortable behind the wheel. »

Vautier is expected to carry out another test session in Indianapolis this time, from August 12 to 14, then in Milwaukee, later in the month. “We want a car that drivers want to drive, explains Dan Andersen, boss of Andersen Promotions which manages the Mazda Road to Indy. We want a light car. With 80 kilos less and more power, it will be significantly more agile. » The new Dallara IL-15 develops 450 hp with 50 more with push-to-pass. But safety was not forgotten, and even “driven” the design of the car. “We leave these tests with several kilometers on the clock and a lot of confidence. We have good feelings before going to the oval. » says Tony Cotman, project manager.

Other IndyCar drivers will be asked to take control of the car before it arrives on the circuits next year.
