IndyCar – A convincing result for Chilton

After discovering his car of Chip Ganassi Racing – Chevrolet in the streets of St Petersburg in Florida, it was on the Phoenix oval that Max Chilton signed his first performance of the year in IndyCar Series. The British rookie adapted perfectly to the driving specific to this type of track to take a convincing seventh place under the checkered flag, and thus climb to the much-coveted place of best beginner.

« This is an incredible result for me, admitted the former Marussia driver in F1. We were able to stay near the top positions in the peloton most of the race. I think I was even in the top five for a while, but I got slowed down by traffic and lost a few positions. I'm really happy with the result considering it's my first race on an oval in this series. »

Chilton believes that with a little more experience his seventh place could have turned into a much better result for his team. “Scott (Dixon, reigning IndyCar Series champion, Editor’s note) won this evening and Tony Kanaan passed me with thirty laps to go. No doubt I didn't have the fastest car. I made some rookie mistakes, due to my lack of experience, when it could well have become a top 2 or 3."

Max Chilton is in tenth place in the championship, as the best rookie. simon pagenaud (Team Penske – Chevrolet), second in Arizona after its second place in St Petersburg, dominates the general classification after two events.
