IndyCar – Will Power on pole at Fontana

Team Penske hit it big by dominating qualifying for the MAVTV 500 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. Will Power took pole ahead of Helio Castroneves who must take 25 points from Scott Dixon, but the two leaders will have to move back ten places on the grid.

Team Penske showed superb potential in qualifying for the season finale of theIndyCar in Fontana. The three DW12s entered by the team found themselves at the forefront with a best time achieved by Will Power who won his third pole of the season, the 32nd of his career. “It's hard to know which trick we're going to do, but it would have been a good thing if Helio (Castroneves) take the bonus point », comments the pole sitter. “He needs to lead the most laps and I will do everything to help him. I want to have a good race, but I'll be fine if it means staying behind him for the entire event. The team comes first. »

The Australian beat his teammate Helio Castroneves by three tenths, who is the last contender able to challenge for the title with Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing), seventh at the end of qualifying. But the two leaders will have to drop ten places on the grid following an engine change, as will Josef Newgarden (Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing) 10th, Graham Rahal (RLL Racing) 18th, Sebastian Saavedra (Dragon Racing) 22nd and Takuma Sato ( AJ Foyt Racing) 25th.

AJ Allmendinger completes the top three Penske drivers by ahead of Sébastien Bourdais (Dragon Racing) who completes the top five with Charlie Kimball (Chip Ganassi Racing) and James Jakes (RLL Racing). His compatriots are further behind since Simon Pagneaud set the 16th time while Tristan Vautier obtained the 20th time.
