IRL 2012: DeltaWing, a surprising project

We started calmly with Lola, before gaining momentum with Dallara, Swift Engineering and finally DeltaWing.

The call for tenders launched by the leaders of theIndycar with a view to building the single-seaters for the 2012 championship has given birth to projects that are surprising to say the least, but will have had the merit of generating a lot of talk about the discipline during this 2009-2010 off-season.

DeltaWing waited until the Chicago Auto Sport Show to reveal its sketches, and even a model, of what the manufacturer would consider building. Dallara and Swift Engineering had proposed designs foreshadowing futuristic cars, to say the least, but what about those of DeltaWing, which could be described as? surreal, with a car born from a cross between the Batmobile, a Dragster and a fighter plane.

Resident of the Newman team Haas Lanigan Racing, Graham Rahal was rather enthusiastic after admiring the model presented in Chicago from all angles.

“The design is revolutionary, we have never seen one car look like this. Is this feasible? Yes. Will it catch the eye? Yes. In addition there is room for sponsors. »

A formula, at $600, perfect according to the young 000-year-old American driver. It is up to the leaders of the Izod Indycar Series to now decide between Lola, Dallara Automobili, Swift Engineering and DeltaWing.
