Josef Newgarden on pole in Toronto

The qualifying session for the Canadian meeting in Toronto turned to the advantage of Josef Newgarden (Team Penske – Chevrolet). The reigning champion waited until the very last moments of Fast 6 to set the benchmark time for the session in 59″495, a new track record, taking advantage of a surface offering more performance.

The resident of Roger Penske's team ultimately beats Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing – Honda), dominating during the second round of qualifying, and simon pagenaud (Team Penske).

Will Power (Team Penske), Alexander Red (Andretti Autosport – Honda) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) complete the top 6 in qualifying.

The session was disrupted by rain, with a wet track in particular for the first group in the first round of qualifying, which notably saw Sébastien Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser Sullivan – Honda) failed in 9th place, effectively eliminating the four-time Champ Car champion from the rest of the session.

Ed Jones (Chip Ganassi Racing) was also trapped by the wet track when he made a mistake, without being able to set a time.
