IndyCar will not return to Phoenix in 2019

After three years of recovery in IndyCar, the Phoenix race will disappear from the calendar again in 2019. Championship officials confirmed the news after witnessing events that were slow paced and poorly attended by the public.

“IndyCar has enjoyed its time at ISM Raceway (the Phoenix Raceway oval), but the low attendance numbers over the past three years have been disappointing despite considerable investment being made on both sides.”, the press release said.

“Circuit President Bryan Sperber and his team have been incredible partners and have been able to develop a great paddock. IndyCar will come back to them when conditions are good for everyone. Meanwhile, we are preparing an incredible program for 2019.”

IndyCar could notably consider adding events outside the USA in the coming years.
