IndyCar ready to welcome new teams

THEIndyCar could welcome new teams to its starting grids from 2018. This is what Jay Frye, the director of discipline, said in Autoweek. The American Single-seater Championship is currently dominated by three structures since Team Penske, Chip Ganassi Racing and Andretti Autosport field a total of 12 single-seaters.

“We have had new owners for a while who are interested, said Jay Frye before the start of the Iowa Corn 300 held on July 9. Juncos and Harding have already competed in several of our races. Steinbrenner Racing and Carlin have also shown interest, showing there is potential. »

“It doesn't necessarily mean they will all arrive together, but there are four teams that we are very excited about. If these four teams field two cars, that would make 8 more on the grid. I don't think we've had this kind of potential in a while." said Jay Frye.

A new entry would possibly fill the withdrawal of a car, with Team Penske likely to withdraw Helio Castroneves by preferring to register a DPi in IMSA. The appearance of McLaren at Indy 500 with Fernando Alonso left traces even if this track seems less successful.

“There has been great progress made to get to this situation. McLaren is clearly in the conversation, but the four teams I previously mentioned are mentioned every week., explained Jay Frye.
