Could it be to chase away bad luck? Not qualified on board a car respecting the historical color of McLaren (papaya orange), Fernando Alonso chose a much more consensual livery for its third attempt, on August 23, 2020 with Arrow McLaren SP.

« JI'm very happy to finally see the car I will use for the Indy 500, explains the double winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Toyota. We had to wait longer than expected before revealing the decoration but that also means that the engines will soon be roaring.

I feel the passion of the fans that makes this event so incredible, continues the Spaniard. I have deep respect for this historic race and for all the competitors.

I am confident that Arrow McLaren SP will be competitive. The team has solid experience, qualified employees and significant resources. »

According to Sam Schmidt, one of the two co-owners of the American team, the livery takes the design of the other Dallaras of Patricio O'Ward and Oliver Askew but changes the colors for the good of the main sponsor.
