The 2021 calendar is revealed with 17 races

After a 2020 season which saw a number of versions of the calendar in the face of multiple postponements and cancellations in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, the microcosm IndyCar is counting on a stable version of its 2021 calendar, the first version of which was published this Thursday.

17 races, 4 on ovals, 6 on an urban track and 7 on a road track, are included in the program, with a traditional opening in the streets of St Petersburg in Florida on March 7.

The 105th edition of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for May 30, two weeks after one of the two Grand Prix contested on the infield, since a second road round in Indianapolis will take place on August 14, in a triptych mixing a very first trip to the streets of Nashville (Tennessee) on August 8, then a round on an oval at Gateway at the end of August.

Texas (oval), moved to May before Indy 500 and Belle Isle (Detroit, Michigan for two urban events) will be the two “double headers” of the calendar, while Iowa is no longer part of the schedule. The season finale will take place at Laguna Seca on September 19.
