Team Penske and Andretti Autosport share the front positions on the grid with Ryan Briscoe on pole ahead of James Hinchcliffe and Ryan Hunter-Reay. The second row is occupied by Marco Andretti, Will Power and Helio Castroneves.

simon pagenaud is the highest ranked Frenchman with 23rd place for the Sam Schmidt Motorsports driver between Michel Jourdain Jr and Sebastian Saavedra. Sebastian Bourdais starts from 25th place and has just announced before the start on Motors TV that he had to return to the configuration adopted in qualifying. Jean Alesi will start from last position and has already announced that he plans to return next year.

The start of the race will be at 18:12 p.m. French time for an event lasting an average of three hours. Last year, victory went to the late Dan Wheldon following the accident of JR Hildebrand who hit the wall of the last corner on the last lap.
