The Indianapolis 500 will evolve this year with a new qualifying system created to optimize the media appeal of the event which will be held on May 25. The new format offers grid training carried out in three stages. Saturday May 17 will be dedicated to selecting the 33 fastest single-seaters who will have at least four laps to achieve a time. The nine fastest drivers will be selected for the Fast Nine Shootout.
Qualifying will continue on May 18 with the formation of places from 10 to 33rd position, in order from slowest to fastest compared to the times achieved the day before. The Fast Nine Shootout will be carried out on the same day with an order of appearance identical to that previously carried out.
