Revamped Indy 500 qualifying

The organizers of IndyCar Series have announced a change in qualifying for the Indianapolis 500, which will be contested on May 18 and 19 before the legendary event which will be held on May 26.

May 18 will see the first qualifying sessions determine the top 30, with cars ranked 10 to 30 not taking part in the remaining sessions on May 19, unlike in other years.

On the 19th precisely, a session will be organized with a single attempt (4 laps) per car to finalize the last row of the grid. Remember that James Hinchcliffe (SPM – Honda) was unable to qualify for the race last year after the first day and could thus have benefited from this new format)

At the same time, and in the reverse order compared to the hierarchy established in qualifying the day before, the nine best drivers will compete for pole position in the Fast Nine ShootOut, with only one attempt at four laps per driver.
