Long Beach: Power resisted Pagenaud

The ten-place penalty on the Long Beach grid did not prevent Will Power (Team Penske) from securing his second victory of the season after completing a two-stop race. The Australian was, however, threatened by simon pagenaud (Schmidt/Hamilton) who led a good part of the race before making a third pit stop. The Frenchman moved up the peloton like an arrow only to fall right in the shoes of the winner who might not have resisted one more lap.

Takuma Sato (Rahal) was supposed to take third position but the Japanese was pushed into the wall at the very end of the race by Ryan Hunter-Reay and finally finished eighth behind Ryan Briscoe (Penske Racing). The Andretti driver was penalized for his action and dropped to sixth position behind James Hinchcliffe (Andretti Autosport), Tony Kanaan (KV Racing Technology) and JR Hildebrand (Panther Racing). Rubens Barrichello (KV Racing Technology) and Helio Castroneves (Team Penske) complete the top ten. Dario Franchitti (Ganassi) experienced further disillusionment by only finishing 15th. Sebastian Bourdais (Lotus Dragon Racing) also lost its chances of doing well by hitting a wall of tires at the start of the race. The Frenchman finished 17th in the event.
