Montoya returns to IndyCar with Team Penske

Juan-Pablo Montoya defies the odds by finally choosing to return to IndyCar. While the 37-year-old Colombian had previously announced that he did not wish to return to car when Michael Andretti had offered him a place in his team, the former pilot of F1 seemed to be in advanced discussions with Furniture Row Racing to keep a steering wheel in Nascar Sprint Cup. But the future ex-resident of Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, who preferred to choose the promising young Kyle Larson next year, finally chose to return to the discipline where he distinguished himself in the past by winning the Championship in 1999 before distinguishing himself the following season for his only participation in the Indianapolis 500. Team Penske will run him throughout the season on the No. 12 DW12 alongside Will Power and Helio Castroneves.

“I’m really excited to join this legendary team starting next year”, declared Juan-Pablo Montoya who will play the entire 2014 season. “I have had the chance to drive for some of the best teams in the world and I have always admired Roger Penske and his structure. I consider this offer an honor. » The owner of the eponymous team is also delighted to be able to benefit from the Colombian's talents. “Juan is an established winner at all levels of motorsport. He has won many races and championships and has many fans. We look forward to continuing this streak of success together and believe he will be a great addition to Team Penske. »

Juan-Pablo Montoya won two races in the Sprint Cup, but never managed to win in the discipline despite several opportunities.
