Olivier Boisson: “With Romain, we are on the same wavelength”

How did this first day of testing go?

It was full of discoveries for everyone. It was a new track for Romain, but also for us, because they changed the surface since the last race, in 2019. We were also surprised by the balance of the car. We thought it would understeer, but it was oversteering, and the track is much faster.

How did Romain get his bearings at Barber?

It's a track with a lot of grip where the steering wheel is very heavy, so Romain was able to gauge what awaited him by IndyCar. He obviously still has a lot to learn in terms of driving, with these cars that are heavier and have less aerodynamic downforce. Additionally, the Firestone tires seem softer this year, so we have more mechanical grip. Regardless, Romain seemed delighted with his first day.

In the morning there was a small exit from the track. What exactly happened?

In fact, the temperatures were cold, and the trail was not easy, but we couldn't afford not to ride since time was already running out. In fact, I think everyone has gone out at least once. Romain spun at the first corner and damaged the rear wing. So nothing serious. Understanding the car's limitations was part of the day's agenda anyway.
