simon pagenaud took part in the Aeroscreen tests last Monday at Barber Motorsports Park (Alabama) with Ryan Hunter-Reay. This cockpit protection produced by Red Bull Advanced Technologies having the same functions as the Halo must come into force in 2020 on all cars in the American championship. L'Indycar was able to try out this new technology on a wet track.
“Indycar and Red Bull have done a fantastic job, commented the last winner of the Indy 500. OWe just need to make tweaks, mainly to the air in the cockpit. The visibility was impeccable. The car looks futuristic and I think children will like it. It was very good on a wet track, you can perhaps even see a little better than with a helmet because the rain disperses better. »
“It’s a magnificent development for safety, a superb step forward for Indycar, adds the runner-up of the 2019 season. As a pilot, I am very grateful for the efforts made to improve our safety. »
The Indycar had already carried out similar tests last week on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Testing will continue on October 15 in Richmond, Virginia.
