Pagenaud qualified for the Fast 9 Shootout

simon pagenaud (Team Penske) will be able to claim pole position for the 100th edition of the Indianapolis 500 determined this Sunday, May 22. The Championship leader achieved the ninth and final time allowing him to enter the Fast 9 Shootout which brings together the nine fastest drivers from the first qualifying session in the fight for the first nine positions on the grid.

The other contenders are James Hinchcliffe (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports), who set the fastest time (calculated on the average of four laps) at an average speed of 230,946 mph (371,6 km/h), Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport ), Will Poser (Team Penske), Helio Castroneves (Team Penske), Townsend Bell (Andretti Autosport), Josef Newgarden (Ed Carpenter Racing), Mikhail Aleshin (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) and Carlos Munoz (Andretti Autosport).

Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing) will qualify from Group 1 which determines the other positions on the grid after finishing the session in 20th place.
